About Us
Roj Community Protection (RCP) is an independent, non-profit Syrian national organization registered under the applicable Syrian laws with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour of the Syrian Arab Republic.
The organization works to protect civilians and strengthen the safety of conflict-affected communities by implementing specialized programs in Mine Action and community protection. These efforts contribute to reducing humanitarian risks, supporting early recovery, strengthening community resilience, and helping create conditions that support safe and dignified returns.
The organization was established in late 2016 under the name Roj Mine Control Organization (RMCO), through an initiative led by a group of Syrian experts and professionals specialized in mine action and humanitarian work. It was established in response to the growing needs created by the conflict in Syria, including landmines, unexploded ordnance, and explosive remnants of war that threatened civilian lives, hindered the return of displaced populations, and disrupted livelihoods.
The organization began its work with limited resources, relying primarily on national expertise and community support. It subsequently developed its institutional, technical, and administrative capacities through cooperation with government authorities, national and international organizations, and humanitarian partners. This enabled RCP to expand its programs and strengthen its organizational readiness in line with recognized professional standards and best practices.

In 2026, the organization adopted its current name, Roj Community Protection (RCP), reflecting the evolution of its mission and the expansion of its areas of intervention. RCP brings together its expertise in Mine Action and community protection programming, while continuing to strengthen its technical and institutional capacities to implement a range of Mine Action activities in accordance with official approvals, national requirements, and international standards.
RCP believes that protecting civilians goes beyond removing physical hazards. It also means strengthening community awareness, supporting meaningful community participation in identifying needs and priorities, improving access to services, strengthening reporting and referral mechanisms, and building effective partnerships that contribute to a more efficient and sustainable humanitarian response.
Across all its work, RCP is guided by the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence. The organization also applies a rights-based approach, the Do No Harm principle, Accountability to Affected People (AAP), the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (PSEA), child protection, data protection and privacy, and a commitment to transparency and integrity across all its programs and operations.
RCP operates in accordance with applicable national laws, relevant national standards, and the International Mine Action Standards (IMAS). The organization is committed to continuously strengthening its institutional and operational capacities to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality humanitarian services that respond to the priorities and genuine needs of affected communities.
Where We Work
Roj Community Protection implements its programs in conflict-affected areas across the Syrian Arab Republic, with a current focus on the eastern region, including Al-Hasakah Governorate and surrounding areas. The organization may expand its operations to other areas based on humanitarian needs, official approvals, available resources, and program requirements.
Areas of intervention are selected based on needs assessments, risk levels, and community priorities, in coordination with relevant government authorities, humanitarian coordination mechanisms, and local and international partners.
The organization adapts its programs to the specific context of each area, respects local conditions, and ensures community participation throughout all stages of activity design and implementation.
